Film "Docteur Jack" with a preview of "Kavita & Teresa"

Thursday, 14.11.2019 / 20:30 – 22:00
A documentary about the life of Dr. Jack Preger

Documentary – Dr. Jack

Jack Preger (born 25 July 1930, in Manchester, England) is a British doctor who has been offering medical treatment as well as vocational training to the poor in the Indian city of Kolkata and in other parts of West Bengal since 1972. He established the relief agency Calcutta Rescue.

On screen for the first time, in this documentary the 87-year-old Doctor tells us his story and talks of his struggles, hopes and doubts. As a testament to his long friendship with Benoit Lange, Jack Preger allowed a camera into the most secret places and most private moments of his life.

How a little Jewish orthodox boy from Manchester, a  farmer deeply attached to the values of his native land, felt compelled, forty years ago, to become a devoted doctor at the head of the best Indian NGO of its category? How could he create an organization starting from nothing, which continues to develop today still in this gigantic city which is Calcutta? How far can self-sacrifice go to fight injustice?
